We are in the middle of a climate emergency situation. Many people are being affected by forest fires, floods, and dramatically increased temperatures. Many more will be affected in the years to come.
This conference will attempt to define the scope of the problem and will bring you experts from many different specialities to discuss various aspects of the climate emergency (and how we can prepare for the impacts on health and our society). We want to consider how we can attempt to mitigate what’s coming, and also how to adapt to some of these changes. The conference will devote much time to hearing from you, the participants, as to your ideas.
We, as physicians, are stewards of health. People respect our opinions on what will improve their health and the health of the planet (and will be calling on us to thoughtfully manage the health problems associated with climate change).
In addition, the health profession is a large contributor to fossil fuel emissions. Let us study how we can work together to lessen this.
We are striving to make this conference as environmentally friendly as possible. For people who live close to Vancouver, we encourage you to personally come to the conference. For people living farther away, we encourage you to participate electronically either via your home computer or in small groups.
