What will be covered in this course?

This is an interprofessional journal club in rural obstetrics and gynecology. The target audience includes family physicians, obstetricians, midwives, and nurse practitioners with an interest in gynecology and obstetrics in rural areas. The moderators are family physicians, OB/GYNs and midwives.

What is the time period of this course?

The series of topics will run from January-June 2018. Each of the sessions will run for four weeks.

How do the sessions work?

Each session will run for four (4) weeks. The session starts with an initial post on the journal club website by the Moderator, summarizing an academic article or a case study. Participants will then engage in discussion online responding to each others' comments on the website. This is asynchronous, so you can visit the website at any time that suits your schedule, using any device with an internet connection. To make the most of this learning experience we suggest you visit the website approximately twice per week to read others' comments and add to the discussion.

  • Think critically about gynecological health topics and identify potential implications for women of all ages; from a rural lens
  • Build upon existing knowledge of key obstetrical issues affecting pregnancy, child birth, and the postpartum period; and its application in rural and remote settings
  • Contribute to a learning community of primary care clinicians who are interested in rural obstetrics & gynecology; and
  • Acquire knowledge, strategies, and skills to improve healthcare and health outcomes for patients


$150.00 per physician, $90.00 per midwife or nurse practitioner, and complimentary for residents.
