Overview

We are excited to offer you our newest workshop designed to support family physicians along the advanced cancer care continuum. A follow-up session has been added to allow you to discuss outstanding and emerging questions with the facilitator, a specialist and your colleagues. 

This workshop is part of the Cancer Care Outreach Program on Education (CCOPE), an ongoing partnership between UBC's Division of Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD), the BCCA's Family Practice Oncology Network (FPON) and the BCCA Screening Groups. More than 400 practitioners have participated in these popular workshops since 2011.

Workshop features:

  • Small & interactive (15 max)
  • Case-based discussion with colleagues over dinner
  • Facilitated by Dr. Johan Van Heerden
  • Complemented by a short follow-up session with Drs. Johan Van Heerden and Douglas McGregor

Skills Gained

• Role of primary care physician along the advanced cancer care continuum for breast, lung and pancreatic cancers
• Appropriate diagnostic and prognosis procedures
• Main treatment options and their potential side-effects
• Palliative approach to care with consideration of prognosis and patient perspective
