Overview

Please contact us if you would like to invite this workshop to your community. This course is a one-day, hands-on workshop designed for rural emergency healthcare teams.  The Shock Course was designed specifically for the rural health care practitioner. Participants will review the management of the hemodynamically unstable patient and discuss the specific steps that must be taken by each member of the health care team in the workup and treatment of these patients. It is a case-based course that is interactive, with lots of hands-on time practicing with ultrasound, as well as central line insertion and management. Instructors are all rural physicians and nurses with experience in critical care. To date, the Shock Course has visited 30 communities across BC.

Skills Gained

  • Recognize and treat all types of shock that can successfully be treated in the rural emergency room
  • Apply early goal directed therapy for sepsis in your community ER
  • Practice placing central venous catheters and intraosseous needles
  • Describe the many ways that ultrasound can help you in your practice
