Take part in this brand-new addition to the But I Don't Do Maternity Care! educational series for physicians who don't do deliveries! This workshop focuses on breastfeeding/chestfeeding essentials and was developed in partnership between the Vancouver Division of Family Practice and UBC CPD.
Please note this is an interactive in-person workshop and active participation is required.
Pre-reading: To gain the full benefit of this learning opportunity, we strongly recommend that learners complete the But I Don't Do Maternity Care! online module (Lessons 4 & 5) prior to attending the session.
Skills Gained
By the end of the workshop learners will be able to:- Support patients to establish and maintain milk supply in the early postpartum period
- Effectively manage newborn weight gain
- Support patients with changing needs to sustain successful breastfeeding/chestfeeding as babies get older
- Discuss breastfeeding/chestfeeding challenges with patients, and refer those with complex challenges to additional supports
- Utilize appropriate resources for providers and patients

Facilitated by Dr. Kara Jansen, Family Physician, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, with small group facilitators family physicians with focused practices on maternity care.
- Format
Using small group case study discussions with active participation required as the basis of learning, you will address important topics related to this aspect of care, with Family Physicians expert in maternity care leading the session.
- Accreditation
The Division of Continuing Professional Development, University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine (UBC CPD) is fully accredited by the Continuing Medical Education Accreditation Committee (CACME) to provide CPD credits for physicians. This two-credit-per-hour Group Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by UBC CPD for up to 3.0 Mainpro+® credits. Each physician should claim only those credits accrued through participation in the activity.
