BC Pediatric Nutrition Guidelines (Birth to Six Years) for Health Professionals are evidence-informed nutrition and feeding guidelines for healthy full-term infants and children from birth to six years of age. The Guidelines are meant to assist health professionals in BC in providing high-quality care related to feeding and identifying potential nutrition risk.
This 2-hour online course provides an interactive overview of the Guidelines, as well as additional information and support for applying the Guidelines in practice.

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
- Describe the structure and purpose of BC's Pediatric Nutrition Guidelines for Health Professionals
- Define the characteristics of responsive feeding, and the benefits of following the Satter Division of Responsibility in Feeding model
- Support parents in making informed decisions about infant feeding
- Provide advice and recommendations to parents about the timing of fluid and food introduction
- Identify and address common nutrient concerns
The Guidelines also give health professionals more information on eating habits, infant feeding, food allergy prevention for infants at increased risk, high-iron foods, food safety and growth monitoring.

This course follows the structure of the Guidelines and is divided into six modules:
1. Introduction
2. The Feeding Relationship
3. Infant Feeding (Birth to 6 Months)
4. Fluids (6 Months to 6 Years)
5. Foods
6. Supporting Families with Specific Nutrition and Feeding Concerns - Accreditation
The Division of Continuing Professional Development, University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine (UBC CPD) is fully accredited by the Continuing Medical Education Accreditation Committee (CACME) to provide CPD credits for physicians. This Self- Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by UBC CPD for up to 2.00 Mainpro+® Self-Learning credits. Each physician should claim only those credits accrued through participation in the activity.
