Pediatric Foundations

Overview

Pediatric Foundations is a self‑paced online course designed for health‑care providers who care for children, including those who do so infrequently and want to strengthen their pediatric skills. Through interactive modules, you will explore principles of patient‑centred and family‑focused care, stages of childhood growth and development, key anatomical and physiological differences between children and adults, and the components of safe pediatric assessment and medication management. This course offers practical tools and foundational knowledge to support confident, safe, and compassionate care for pediatric patients and their families.

Outline

This course is divided into 3 lessons:

  • The Fundamentals of Pediatrics
  • The Pediatric Assessment
  • The Principles of Pediatric Medication Administration
Learning objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the principles that make up patient-centered and family-focused care
  • Identify the five childhood stages in terms of growth and development
  • Identify the anatomical and physiological differences between children and adults
  • Define the components of a complete pediatric physical assessment
  • Identify the components of a safe medication order
