      Welcome! We are grateful that you have decided to take this course.

      This course was designed for perinatal health care team members that are seeking to expand their knowledge on gender-affirming care. It will give you tools to make your practice safer for gender diverse, transgender, non-binary, and Two-Spirit people seeking gender-affirming perinatal care.

      This course is divided into 8 lessons:

      • 1: Gender 101
      • 2: Gender-affirming care
      • 3: Creating a welcoming space
      • 4: Preconception care
      • 5: Pregnancy care
      • 6: Labour and birth care
      • 7: Postpartum care
      • 8: Newborn care and infant feeding

       

    • Skills Gained

      By the end of this module you will be able to:

      • Describe gender diversity, recognize the adverse health impacts of transphobia, and identify Canadian rights legislation that protects human rights;
      • Apply the principles of gender-affirming perinatal care to create a supportive health care team and a safe clinical environment;
      • Recognize key perinatal health care needs of transgender, non-binary, and Two-Spirit people; and
      • Identify and integrate appropriate tools and resources into perinatal care for this population.
    • Accreditation

      The Division of Continuing Professional Development, University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine (UBC CPD) is fully accredited by the Continuing Medical Education Accreditation Committee (CACME) to provide CPD credits for physicians. This activity is an Accredited Self-Assessment Program (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program (MOC) of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by UBC CPD. You may claim a maximum of 3.00 hours (credits are automatically calculated). This one-credit-per-hour Self-Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by UBC CPD for up to 3.00 Mainpro+® credits. Each physician should claim only those credits accrued through participation in the activity
