Indigenous Patient Led CPD

Indigenous Patient Led CPD

The Indigenous Patient-Led Continuing Professional Development (IPL CPD) Program aims to improve Indigenous health outcomes by increasing access to culturally safe care for Indigenous Peoples and communities in rural and remote BC. The program supports rural physicians and health professionals in strengthening their cultural humility and ability to deliver culturally safe, trauma-sensitive care through co-creation and delivery of Indigenous-led education.

Guiding Principles
Work together with Indigenous Nations and communities, rural physicians and health professionals to foster cultural humility, address systemic anti-Indigenous racism and improve the health of Indigenous peoples. Centre the leadership, lived experience and wisdom of Indigenous patients and Elders. Recognize and dismantle systemic oppression, colonization and individual bias. Build and strengthen relationships between Indigenous Nations/Peoples and physician communities by creating opportunities for learning, self-reflection and dialogue.

About Us

We are an Elder-led group that includes both Indigenous and non-Indigenous members working together to increase Cultural Safety and Humility in rural BC by building relationships with and between Indigenous communities and physician groups.

Education

Trauma-sensitive practices are the basis for offering culturally safe and respectful health services for Indigenous relatives, as the historical and ongoing effects of colonization have resulted in profound intergenerational impacts that continue to influence health, well-being, and interactions with the health care system today.
