UBC CPD is pleased to welcome Dr. Chris Morrow as Executive Medical Director on Sept. 6.

Dr. Morrow, a practicing emergency medicine physician from Victoria, has held numerous administrative and leadership roles in the Faculty of Medicine, the health authority and the community, including Director of Trauma Services, Clinical Lead (Site Chief) of Emergency Medicine, Division Head Emergency Medicine, Director Physician Education Program and Business Lead for Victoria Emergency Physician Medical Society. He is also a Portfolio Site Lead and Master Teacher in the Island Medical Program.

In addition to his work at UBC, many will recognize Dr. Morrow as chair of the Island Medical Conference and regular attendee at St. Paul’s Emergency Medicine Conference and other UBC CPD events.

He also created a number of innovative CPD programs, including Indigenous Specific Anti-Racism Training (ISART) — a two-day core course that engages clinicians in a simulation session to connect with Indigenous actors and an ongoing community of practice.

Morrow also developed a Multidisciplinary Simulation Course that covers inter-professional education (IPE) and a contextual component to address issues like racism in primary care environments.

“I’ve been lucky to engage in activities as both a lead and as a participant over the years,” says Morrow. “I’ve always been impressed by the work of the UBC CPD in partnership with the health-care community across BC.”

Dr. Morrow takes on the position following Dr. Bob Bluman’s transition from the role this past summer. As Executive Medical Director, Dr. Morrow will work closely with medical directors, senior leaders, faculty and partners in the strategic leadership of continuing professional development initiatives.

“I am looking forward to working with the many exemplary partners and health professionals engaged in the provision of such high quality and impactful CPD. It’s exciting to be a part of creating learning opportunities that support clinicians in providing optimal care and improving health-care outcomes for our patients. I’m thrilled to be a part of the outstanding team at UBC CPD,” says Morrow.
