Tailored CPD for Effective Collaboration: Team-Based Primary Care Learning Centres (TPCLC)
Overview
As Primary Care Networks (PCNs) across British Columbia (BC) work toward fostering interprofessional team-based care, UBC CPD aims to support the Team-Based Primary Care Learning Centres (TPCLC) project by delivering tailored learning resources to members of team-based primary care clinics, including physicians, nurse practitioners and allied health providers.
Team-Based Primary Care Learning Centres (TPCLC) Project
The Team-Based Primary Care Learning Centres (TPCLC) project is a three-year initiative supported by the Ministry of Health (MoH) and managed by the UBC Department of Family Practice in the Faculty of Medicine (FoM).
The TPCLC project aims to:
- increase both training and clinical capacity within Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and other interprofessional team-based primary care models province-wide
- test alternative models for integration of family practice medical residents into interprofessional team-based primary care settings
- build a foundation for a comprehensive provincial plan for integrated, collaborative health education and training.
Couse & Program Development
In service of the Team-Based Primary Care Learning Centres (TPCLC), UBC CPD will develop and pilot a tailored CPD program to promote more effective team collaboration at the TPCLCs. The program lays the foundation for future efforts to engage team-based primary care clinics with lifelong learning opportunities.
Between October 2024 and June 2025, UBC CPD will
- develop and pilot a TPCLC self-assessment tool to help clinics identify areas of strength and opportunities for growth across collaborative competencies
- conduct an environmental scan and curate an online portal with educational resources to support collaborative practice
- develop and pilot a concierge system to guide TPCLCs through the process of creating customized learning plans, including in-person CPD support when needed
- research and evaluation: UBC CPD will conduct a rigorous investigation of how teams engage in the self-assessment process and with tailored learning resources to inform future iterations of the program.
Partnership
This project is in collaboration with the Team-Based Primary Care Learning Centres (TPCLC) within UBC’s Department of Family Practice. The research component of the project will be undertaken in collaboration with researchers at UBC’s Centre for Health Education Scholarship, the University of Toronto, and Memorial University of Newfoundland.
