Trevor Janz (He/Him)

Dr. Trevor Janz is a Family Physician with over 30 years of experience in emergency and long-term care medicine, practicing in Nelson. He currently serves as the Regional Medical Director for Long-Term Care and Palliative Care. Dr. Janz would like to support mentees in personal work/life balance, career development, and learning to do what you love, in a sustainable and nourishing way. Throughout his career, Dr. Janz has contributed to numerous provincial quality improvement initiatives. His work includes advancing care planning and MOST, promoting appropriate use of antipsychotics, managing behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia, reducing polypharmacy, and implementing strategies for least restraint and falls prevention. Dr. Janz created the “Dementia Roadmap for Families”, and has just completed a “Frailty Roadmap for Families” in collaboration with Fraser Health. Dr. Janz loves talking to younger colleagues exploring who they are and what they want to become as a doctor, healer, and human being. He would have loved a senior colleague to talk to, who had time and space to hear his troubles and offer some perspective from farther along the road. He hopes to have a direct personal relationship with younger physicians finding their way in the world, knowing that he can lighten their load and help them find perspective and joy in their work. 

Outside of work, he is father of 5; a sailor, rock climber, carpenter, gardener, beekeeper, musician, spiritual seeker. Life has handed him lots of learning opportunities, with personal experiences of illness, trauma, and loss, mental illness and suicide of a loved one, and the deaths of parents and colleagues, all in the context of a rich and fulfilling life and career. He has a life and work that he loves.
