Amy Tan (She/Her)

Dr. Amy Tan is a Family Physician and Palliative Care Physician currently practicing on the Saanich Peninsula of Vancouver Island. Dr. Tan completed her training at the University of Alberta and her scope of practice includes working in an academic Family Medicine clinic, in a community Family Medicine clinic, in several community hospices and as a palliative care consultant. Dr. Tan has been a faculty coach for students, residents and peers both in Alberta and with UBC. As a racialized female physician leader, she is motivated to be a coach/mentor to help physicians understand oppression, racism, and intersectionality. She hopes that greater understanding of these important issues will positively impact community practice, and wishes that there had been a mentor to discuss racism and sexism with when she was new to practice. Outside of work, Dr. Tan plays the piano, which is even more fun when her son joins on his violin, and she enjoys reading about the humanities. She is also a creative person who enjoys landscape photography and loves to be out in nature walking along beaches or in forested parks.
