Meet: Dr. Kelvin Bei

Title: Nurse Practitioner CPD Program Director

Describe what you do and what programs you work on:

As the Nurse Practitioner (NP) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program Director, I am very excited to support the continuing professional development of NPs through the expansion of evidence-based virtual and in-person conferences, workshops and webinars.

Which partners do you work with most closely?

The Nurse Practitioner CPD program is in partnership between the Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of British Columbia (NNPBC) and the University of British Columbia’s Division of Continuing Professional Development (UBC CPD).

Who does your work impact?

Our work impacts NPs, interprofessional colleagues and teams, and most importantly, the patients and communities we care for throughout the province.

In what ways does this work impact the health community, health-care system, or well-being of the target audience?

By connecting NPs to learning experiences that bridge knowledge to practice, we hope to foster a community of support, promote provider wellness and build practitioner confidence in their ability to address the health-care needs in their communities.

What do you think are the new opportunities (trends) affecting your work?

We are in a time of rapid technological advancements, including tools like artificial intelligence (AI), that can help with practice efficiencies and decrease clinician burnout. Conversely, in our current climate, there are opportunities to strengthen human connections, team-based case, environmental stewardship and our relationship with Indigenous peoples.
