Meet: Dr. Cecile Andreas
Title: Medical Lead
Describe what you do and what programs you work on:
I am the new Medical Lead for the Coaching and Mentoring Program (CAMP), a mechanism for rural practitioners in British Columbia (BC) to receive coaching, mentoring and support from peers. Within CAMP, we support health professionals to increase their confidence in clinical skill areas, like Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS), anesthesia, emergency medicine, and rural obstetrics and surgery, as well as provide support on navigating topics of well-being, leadership and change.
Which partners do you work with most closely?
CAMP works in partnership with the Rural Coordination Centre of BC (RCCbc) and receives funding from the Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues, a joint committee of the Doctors of BC and BC Ministry of Health.
Who does your work impact?
Our work fosters peer connections in rural practitioner networks to help improve practice, increase confidence and connect health professionals.
In what ways does this work impact the health community, health-care system, or well-being of the target audience?
Through CAMP, rural practitioners have the opportunity to build meaningful support systems through reassuring collegial relationships and resources as they navigate the breadth and depth of rural practice.
What do you think are the new opportunities (trends) affecting your work?
CAMP provides the opportunity for peers to support one another through learning, challenges and triumphs. Clinician well-being is increasingly recognized as a vital aspect of excellent practice environments.
We continue to see a growing need for hands-on, high-volume clinical mentoring skills, such as emergency medicine, POCUS, intubation and pediatrics. As we respond to this demand, CAMP is committed to expand our network of clinical sites and create new opportunities for mentees achieve their professional and personal goals.
