Meet: Dr. Dana Hubler

Title: Medical Director, Rural CPD

Portfolio: Rural

Describe what you do and what programs you work on:

I co-lead the Rural CPD program with Laura Beamish, along with providing medical leadership on our Indigenous Patient-Led project.

Which partners do you work with most closely?

We partner closely with the Rural Coordination Centre of BC (RCCbc) teams and programs, including Rural Education Action Plan (REAP), Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) and Real-Time Virtual Support (RTVS) to create a seamless learning suite for rural health professionals to meet evolving learning needs across their careers.

Who does your work impact?

Our work aims to support rural health professionals as they bring continuous practice improvement to help improve the health and well-being of their patients and communities.

In what ways does this work impact the health community, health-care system, or well-being of the target audience?

Our programs aim to close equity gaps between learning needs of rural and urban health professionals, and the communities they serve. We provide high-quality education led by rural peers, positioning Rural CPD to meet the unique needs of our colleagues doing important work in low-resource settings.

What do you think are the new opportunities (trends) affecting your work?

As the health-care system is challenged to meet growing needs of the population, so are we to offer relevant, timely and contextualized education. We are pushed to offer learning that remains ahead of emerging technologies (artificial intelligence, evolving point-of-care diagnostics, team-based care, clinician wellness and more).
