Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Skills Physician Wellness Group Training Course — Cohort D
The Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Skills Physician Wellness Group Training Course is an eight-week course designed to provide BC physicians and nurse practitioners (NPs) with education and training to support their own mental wellbeing through evidence-based self-management strategies. Secondary benefits include increased awareness of CBT and its clinical applications and training in skills coaching for patients.
The course is delivered virtually in real-time over the span of eight weeks. Each week consists of a two-hour session facilitated by a specially trained family physician or psychiatrist; learners are encouraged to attend all sessions to derive the full value of the course. During small-group weekly workshops, learners will practice incorporating CBT Skills into their unique situations. The course requires reflective exercises and learners’ personal commitments to practice change. Learners will access an online portal with weekly readings, resources and interactive content to support their learning.
Multiple offerings are available each quarter, and we encourage you to select the cohort that best fits your availability and learning needs. Please note that you are not able to register for more than one cohort.
Eligibility: The CBT Skills Physician Wellness Group Training Course can only be offered to actively practicing physicians and NPs in BC, Canada. This means that at this time we are unfortunately unable to accommodate any physicians/NPs located elsewhere, and/or non-physician or NP health professionals who may be interested in the course. Thank you for your understanding.
Please note: These CBT Skills Cohorts are intended for continuing education purposes only. If you are experiencing symptoms of depression or anxiety and would prefer to be in a treatment-oriented group, physicians are encouraged to contact Physician Health to attend a CBT group with them, covered by MSP. Kindly note that unlike UBC CPD group training courses described on this page, only BC physicians are eligible for treatment-oriented CBT groups with the Physician Health Program. More information can be found here, or you can reach the Physician Health Program at @email.

Facilitated by Dr. Sameen Ahmed: Welcome! I feel fortunate to live, work, and play in the beautiful territory of the Ligwilda’xw people as an uninvited settler and guest. I have facilitated classes with Mind Space since 2021 and get to collaborate with an amazing team as Family Physician Lead for the program. Outside of Mind Space, I have provided care in rural/remote communities since 2008, indigenous health clinics, a women’s shelter, and lead quality improvement team projects. I love spending a lot of time outdoors, hanging out with my dog, and engaging in the arts in a variety of ways.
I am passionate about mental health education and I am continually inspired by the helpful shifts participants make in their lives through the time we spend learning and trying out proven, practical skills together. My approach is intended to be calm, gentle, accepting, non-judgmental, and to invite a sense of curiosity. My hope is that each participant gains something useful from the course and feels comfortable within the space. I look forward to meeting you and wish you enhanced wellness and peace.
