    • Overview

      The purpose of this course is to help primary care providers incorporate the current Guidelines for HIV Testing in British Columbia (BC) into their practice. The guidelines articulate HIV testing recommendations for BC that were developed in 2014. Each component of these guidelines will be evaluated with ongoing monitoring and assessment. As with all guidelines, HIV testing recommendations are expected to evolve over time.

      This course is divided into six lessons:

      • Lesson 1 Background & Rationale for New HIV Testing Guidelines
      • Lesson 2 New HIV Testing Guidelines
      • Lesson 3 Special Considerations for Testing
      • Lesson 4 Plan for Testing
      • Lesson 5 Result Guidelines
      • Lesson 6 Initial management of an HIV diagnosis
    • Skills Gained

      By the end of this course, you will be able to:

      • Summarize the clinical rationale and evidence for routine HIV testing
      • Describe the new guidelines for routine HIV testing
      • Identify changes to HIV testing, including testing in specific circumstances
      • Develop an approach for applying HIV testing guidelines in a busy primary care setting
      • Describe recommendations for managing a positive result
      • Identify and utilize resources to support routine HIV testing and connecting people living with HIV to care
      • Support collaborative care and treatment of patients with HIV
    • Accreditation

      The Division of Continuing Professional Development, University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine (UBC CPD) is fully accredited by the Continuing Medical Education Accreditation Committee (CACME) to provide CPD credits for physicians. This one-credit-per-hour Assessment program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by UBC CPD for up to 1.50 Mainpro+® credits. Each physician should claim only those credits accrued through participation in the activity.
