Indigenous Specific Anti-Racism (ISAR) and Cultural Safety
Overview
UBC CPD recognizes the responsibility to support reconciliation with First Nations, Inuit and Métis people, advance anti-racism and improve the experiences of Indigenous peoples when interacting with the health-care system.
To address the need for access to education, resources and practice tools for physicians in BC communities, UBC CPD has established a relationship with the Indigenous Specific Anti-Racism (ISAR) and Cultural Safety Team at Doctors of BC to deliver education to health professionals through a series of webinars.
These webinars will provide health professionals with practice-relevant education on Indigenous specific anti-racism and cultural safety topics.
Supporting physicians and patients
With approval and guidance from the Joint Collaborative Committee (JCC) Cultural Safety Steering Committee, the ISAR and Cultural Safety team identifies topics based on aggregated feedback collected from physicians, staff and steering committee members.
These webinars will serve as a resource on the UBC CPD and JCC websites for physicians and health professionals who are committed to providing culturally safe care.
Education delivery
UBC CPD will deliver 90-minute virtual, live and interactive sessions that can be viewed from a computer or mobile device. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions before and during the sessions.
The first Indigenous Specific Anti-Racism (ISAR) and Cultural Safety webinar, Providing Culturally Safe Care for Inuit, on March 19 is now open for registration.
Partnership
Doctors of BC’s Indigenous Specific Anti-Racism (ISAR) and Cultural Safety Team with the support of the JCCs has collaborated with UBC CPD to support the education development of this webinar series. Learn more about their mission.
