BC Cancer Primary Care Learning Sessions: Breast Cancer

Overview

This online module is for primary care providers practicing in British Columbia who are interested in learning more about breast cancer care and their role in supporting patients through their journey. This module will explore best practices in screening, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, surveillance and late effects.

 

 

Outline

The course is divided into 3 modules, Take-Home Resources, Discussion Board, and Ask An Expert Portal. The 3 modules are divided into the following topics:

  1. Screening & Early Diagnosis
  2. Staging & Treatment
  3. Survivorship, Surveillance & Late Effects
Learning objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe and select from available screening options for early detection of breast cancer and mortality reduction in asymptomatic patients.
  • Recognize red flag symptoms associated with breast cancer and select appropriate and timely diagnostic investigations and referrals.
  • Define cultural safety and humility, and identify ways to create safe and respectful healthcare relationships.
  • Describe the roles and responsibilities of health care providers along the breast cancer care continuum.
  • Identify and manage matters related to survivorship, surveillance, and late effects in breast cancer.
