BREATHE Course

Overview

BREATHE (Basic Rural Education in Airway Technology for the Hospital Environment) is a simulation-based airway management course tailored for rural and resource-limited settings. This one-day course aims to equip interprofessional health care teams with the knowledge, skills and confidence to manage complex airway scenarios. BREATHE includes a combination of in-person didactic education and case-based simulations delivered in rural communities.

 

Learning objectives

The learning objectives for the BREATHE Course are as follows: 

  • Use the “ABC Plan” airway management algorithm and airway management checklist
  • Describe strategies (including equipment and medications) for managing difficult airways/intubation
  • Practice team-based airway management in a clinical simulation setting
Acknowledgements

This project was developed and is operated by the UBC Faculty of Medicine's Division of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in partnership with the Rural Coordination Centre of BC. Funding for the Rural POCUS Rounds was provided by the Joint Standing Committee on Rural Issues, a joint committee of the Doctors of BC and BC Ministry of Health.

 

 

 

 

Accreditation

The Division of Continuing Professional Development, University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine (UBC CPD) is fully accredited by the Continuing Medical Education Accreditation Committee (CACME) to provide CPD credits for physicians. This activity is an Accredited Simulation Program (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by UBC CPD. You may claim a maximum of 7.0 hours (credits are automatically calculated). This activity meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by UBC CPD for up to 7.0 Mainpro+® Certified Activity credits. Each physician should claim only those credits accrued through participation in the activity.
