FASD-informed Care: An Introduction for Health Professionals
This course provides an overview of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), describes the care experiences of people with FASD, and provides practice tips for health professionals to better support people with FASD and their families.
Weaving together the latest scientific research with stories, tips, reflections, and strategies, this course is an invaluable resource for all health care providers who work with people with FASD.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Recognize the most common signs and symptoms associated with FASD
- Describe the social and cultural causes of FASD, as well as patterns of bias in diagnosis
- Challenge your own biases regarding people with FASD and their families
- Provide care informed by the needs and experiences of people with FASD and their families
This project was created in response to Recommendation 8 in Excluded: Increasing Understanding, Support and Inclusion for Children with FASD and their Families published in 2021 by the Representative for Children and Youth.
