Overview

Join us in person on November 21, 2026 at UBC Robson Square in Vancouver, BC for the Implants and IUDs: Comparing and Inserting Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC) workshops.  Explore the current contraceptive landscape, the unmet needs in contraception, and gain insights into the benefits and risks of various contraceptive options in Canada.

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe the contraceptive landscape and unmet needs for contraception in Canada
  • Compare the benefits and risks of the etonogestrel subdermal implant and intrauterine contraception

Workshop A: IUDs

  • Apply current best practices for inserting IUDs and troubleshooting difficult insertions

Workshop B: Implants

  • Describe and demonstrate evidence-based techniques for inserting, localizing, and removing the etonogestrel subdermal implants

A $100.00 processing fee will apply.  If notice of cancellation is received in writing between Sept 21- Oct 9, refunds will be processed but a cancellation fee of $250 will apply. No refunds will be processed after Oct 9.

Outline

Part 1: Lecture and Q&A (2 hours)

You will receive the pre-recorded lecture 2 weeks before the in-person Q&A session. In-person Q&A begins at 9:00 AM PDT and you must attend to obtain credits.

Participants must review the recorded lecture and attend the live Q&A session in order to obtain Mainpro+ credits.

Part 2: Hands-on Workshops (2 hours each)

Renee Hall, MD
Dr. Renee Hall is a Clinical Associate Professor at UBC who has been working in the area of family planning in Vancouver for over 25 years. She completed her fellowship in women's health and family planning at UBC. She is the Medical director of Willow Reproductive Health Centre. She provides first and second trimester medical and surgical abortion and training at the CARE program at BC Women’s Hospital, Everywoman's Health Center, and Kelowna General Hospital’s Gynaecology Services Clinic. She assisted in the development of the Canadian National Abortion Federation’s medication abortion training program and she is the director of the UBC CPD IUD and contraceptive implant training program.
