Optimizing Care for Gay, Bisexual, and other Men who have Sex with Men (gbMSM)

Overview

This is a short online continuing medical education course designed for family physicians and primary care providers in Canada. This course will introduce you to gbMSM health issues and implications with the intent to provide you with the knowledge and skills to improve the care of your gbMSM patients.

Outline

This course is divided into four lessons:

  1. Social and Political Context of gbMSM health
  2. Epidemiology & Life Course
  3. Safer Spaces, Language, and Communication
  4. Case Studies
Learning objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Recognize the impact of socio-political factors and context on gbMSM patients’ health;
  • Identify common health issues experienced by gbMSM patients and their implications for care;
  • Create safer spaces with appropriate language and better communication;
  • Acquire knowledge and skills to improve care of gbMSM patients.

The Division of Continuing Professional Development, University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine (UBC CPD) is fully accredited by the Continuing Medical Education Accreditation Committee (CACME) to provide CPD credits for physicians.
