This is a short online continuing medical education course designed for specialists in British Columbia (BC). This course aims to help introduce continuing professional development (CPD) requirements and opportunities for specialists.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • discuss how to be an active learner engaged in on-going practice improvement and continuing professional development (CPD)
  • define and understand the scope of CPD
  • list the basic requirements for maintaining competency as per the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
  • describe how physicians can access available CME/CPD funding
  • recognize the various CME/CPD providers and how to access resources

Accreditation

The Division of Continuing Professional Development, University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine (UBC CPD) is fully accredited by the Continuing Medical Education Accreditation Committee (CACME) to provide CPD credits for physicians. This activity is an Accredited Self-Assessment Program (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program (MOC) of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by UBC CPD. You may claim a maximum of .75 hours (credits are automatically calculated). Each physician should claim only those credits accrued through participation in the activity.
