In a shifting landscape of long-term care (LTC), the role of the Community Care Medical Director (CCMD) has expanded, offering opportunities for leadership, collaboration, advocacy, and system navigation. The course is divided into 5 modules, Take-Home Resources, and an Ask An Expert Portal. The 5 modules are divided into the following topics:
- The Landscape of Long-Term Care (LTC)
- Understanding the LTC Population and Approach
- Ethics in LTC: Rights, Capacity and Consent
- Leading with Purpose: The Role of a CCMD
- Supporting Education and Quality Improvement in LTC
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Define long-term care (LTC) as a distinct field of medicine, characterized by a unique landscape and governed by specific provincial legislation
- Identify the clinically distinct population in LTC and the specialized approaches to their care
- Describe the journey of a LTC resident within Fraser Health Authority
- Discuss ethical considerations related to LTC residents’ rights, capacity, and consent
- Describe the role and responsibilities of a Care Community Medical Director (CCMD)
- Apply leadership and communication strategies essential for fulfilling the CCMD role
- Support and advocate for staff education and quality improvement initiatives at the care community
