Navigating Thyroid Testing in Primary Hypothyroidism: Practical Approaches for Health Professionals

Overview

A concise, self-paced online course designed for family physicians, nurse practitioners, and other health professionals engaged in ordering thyroid tests. This course aims to support participants with optimal use of thyroid testing. Participants will be guided through an overview of thyroid physiology and testing, including the symptoms, risk factors, and epidemiology of hypothyroidism. Through interactive case studies, learners will reinforce their understanding and application of this knowledge in clinical settings. Additionally, the course introduces tools for engaging patients in shared decision-making, enhancing the appropriate and optimal utilization of thyroid testing to improve patient care and outcomes.

The course is divided into 2 lessons and a case study review:

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Review thyroid hormone physiology 
  • Recognize indications for different thyroid laboratory tests
  • Apply thyroid laboratory tests appropriately in the diagnosis and management of primary hypothyroidism
